When low melted the candle's wax and the moon gently waned; She glimpsed a shadow passing quick along her window's pane.
Goddess Night softly sleeps calling all the dreamers to her breast; Yet she who pined for romance's tide knew not the peace to be had in rest.
Oft' she paced across the floor fading footsteps in the wood; Until she found his face within the door as he silently lowered dampened hood.
With tears of joy and a heart of pride she embraced her lover bold and warm; And he kissed her brow as e'er he could and rushed her with his loving charm.
Gone is the dark, candle's wax flat so many nights she stood waiting; heart full and mind overfilling quietly anticipating.
Always knowing, faith golden that he'd return with the moon; And as she slept, her hand in his She knew he'd leave again soon.
While fragile dreams dared dart about a tear slipped down her rosy cheek; for now she held her lover true but his was a love curiously weak.
Strong as any storm's temptest she knew that even her will would break and off he'd go into the daylight while she fell cold, dead by heartache.
It wasn't but a month gone by when he picked his path and strode away Never looking back to find his faithful lover's eyes turned gray.
He moved about the world with ease until one morn' he ventured back; And saw then what his deed had done his world trembling, fading black.
Glint of the moon upon his blade he thrust his pain so deep; Beside the ghost of his lover true he consumed his final sleep.
