His hand lay gentle upon her shoulder her face turned away towards the moon, "Darling, I'm only growing older, why won't you let me love you?"
He watched as a tear slipped free, falling down her flushed cheek. Her lips trembled and he thought he'd break as he waited for her to speak.
But Evey said not a word, keeping her eyes cast out past the window. His heart shattered there at her feet, but yet refused to let her go.
Resting his head upon her breast, he offered vulnerability. Her hands, two alabaster butterflies, fluttered to her chest, where they nestled within his ebony hair.
He felt a shiver run through her, radiating through him and hope was renewed. She was the warrior, always fighting and he wanted nothing more than to strip her bare -
Of her defenses, and show her the world, that love could be reached, in the palm of his hand. But this was something she refused to hear and mournful, still, could not understand.
"Oh, Evey, why don't you feel my heart as it quakes and quivers for you? Why do you stand so cold and still, you're face cast to the moon?"
But Evey, she stood silent, his head still nestled upon her breast. "I've kept my promise and will forever; my love for you shall never rest."
Lifting his head, he met her gaze, tears now spilling free. He declared his love another time, his words pounding with the rhythm of his fragile heart.
And as he left her there, cold and silent he felt his world crumble apart.
Mmmm...I remember this one. :) I loved it then, and I adore it now! Very well done! It took my breath away.
