Forever Friends- part one

The tired sun set over the grassy mountains, and a crimson glow took over the horizon with a beauty so radiant, that the kangaroos in the top paddock seemed to come to a halt and admire the glowing sky. The night chill began to set in, as a cool breeze rushed through the pine trees and into the thick forest. Holly loved it out on the farm, her family didnt own it, but they rented the house on the property. They had been attracted to the fresh air and the sounds of the bush, and the never ending carpet of green spreading over the land as far as the eye could see. Holly often went walking in the afternoon, she wasnt at all afraid of the bulls in the paddock, and they didnt seem to mind her either. The cows had acres to roam and were not always close by when she went walking, and today she could see them down the back around a small dam. It was getting chilly so she decided to head back to the house. A blue wren and her chick fluttered along beside her, chirping and chasing insects, they were social little birds and had gorgeous blue feathers.
Holly passed through a fence into an overgrown paddock and waded her way through the long grass, over the years she had worn a track through the middle, but sometimes if the cows didnt visit this paddock for a while it got a bit out of control and it was hard to see where you were walking. As she was fighting her way through the paddock, she heard a rustling sound about ten meters away. It was rather loud, not at all like a snake or a lizard, and it caught Hollys attention. Carefully and slowly she made her way over to where the noise was coming from, and as she got nearer she could see that it was one of the cows. It wasnt moving, and she could still hear the rustling. She crept closer and as she peered over the dead animal, there lying in a tiny bundle in the grass, was a newborn calf.
The poor cow had obviously died giving birth, and without the milk of its mother, the tiny infant was sure to die. It still had afterbirth and the cord attached to it, so Holly wiped away the mess, and removed her hair tie, sealing off the umbilical cord. She scooped the calf up in her arms and carried him home, where her mother made a warm bed in the shed for him. They found an old baby bottle, and diluted some full cream milk with water and attempted to get the calf to drink. He drank a small amount, it wasnt enough but it would keep him alive until they could call the farmer out in the morning.

Good morning, Miss Reaper :)

This seems like it's going to turn into a sweet tale of friendship. I'd like to know what age group you have in mind here, so that if you are looking for critique, I can use that as a guideline, as it depends on the age level as to how the story should read.
If, however, you are simply wanting to share, then thank you for being the first to post in Parchment and Stencils :)

Either way, I look forward to reading more.
